  1. Well, I'm just guessing here, but I would assume the importance of the first airmail service in India would be the effect it had on communication. India lacks the infrastructure of more developed nations, and traveling long distances on highways can take days as opposed to hours in the United States. Airmail greatly reduced the amount of time it took for a letter to reach an isolated part of the country. Plus, because of the geography of India, with parts of the country being located in the Himalayan Range, reaching isolated villages wasn't possible by automobile or waterways. Because of Airmail, you could receive your letter in a couple days as opposed to a couple weeks.
